Did you celebrate PI day?
 
The Greek letter PI represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.
 
March 14 is PI day.  3/14.  It is to be celebrated at 1:59am or PM.

Here's what I reckon!

1.  Pi is not truly random.
2.  The probability of finding any given string decreases exponentially in proportion to the length of that string.  A string of infinite length apparently has a zero probability of being found in pi - ie a string of infinite length has a zero probability of matching pi.  As the ratio of string length:pi length approaches 1, P-->0.  And a string of finite length will be found eventually if pi's digits approximate randomness.  As it deviates from truly random the probability decreases; a probability less than 100% means that the string may not be found.  There are at least a couple approaches to get the infinites to cancel in the equations, and you have to do that to make sense of anything.
3.  A common sense approach tells us that other numbers such as 1/3 or root2 or the natural logarithm are not contained in pi, as they are of infinite length.  Pi also does not contain a reiteration of itself, as that would be a repeating decimal.

However, since the numbers representing human beings are not anywhere near infinite, we are likely to all be "contained" in pi.   And of course, all my reasoning could quite easily be completely wrong.  I'm awful at math!  I'm in constant admiration of people with a knack for mathematics.

Fun pi facts from Some Mathematician on the web:
Pi contains self-locating strings.  (ie 16470 is found starting at position 16470 in the string)
Pi contains "loop sequences" (Searching for a number, then counting its position, then searching for the number represented by the position can eventually bring you back to the original number, unless you encounter something like a self-locating number)
Pi contains an infinite number of patterns.
To find every possible date (minus year) in pi requires 60,872 digits.  The final one is 1203, interestingly, whether you use the day/month or month/day pattern. (1203 = dec 3 or 12 march)
The odds of finding a 10-digit number in the first 100 million digits of pi are just under 1%.  The probability of finding an 11-digit number is just under 0.1%!!
The University of Tokyo has calculated pi to 1.24 trillion digits!  I think that's the world record.  Do they just save it on their hard drive or print out 10 km of numbers or what?

Then I realized that if we can be uploaded then we can also be converted to source code in any given Turing complete language, and we too are in pi (though, of course, a very long way from the start). Strange but true.

Sorry I havent been in and stopped by for an age but stopped blogging since MSN spaces, ironically went LIVE, and died. but I thought I'd stop by and say hi. Sorry to hear that things havent been great recently. Hopefully those deviant scrotes will receive a comeuppence befitting their scrotumness, you know like being locked up in a room whilst their cocks are cut off, whilst being subjected to fox news, no scratch that no-one deserves that. But hopefully they'll get put away for a good long stretch.
 
This however is a tale of two such fucks in Britain who decided to go out and rob a newsagent. They fronted up to the newsagent and told him it was a stick up. The plucky newsagent whipped out his cameraphone, snapped them and emailed the photo to the police and the scrotes are currently detained at her majesties pleasure. Hopefully the two people who robbed you will get some karma like that.
